What we Treat

PTSD

Traumatic events that leave a lasting impact are often unexpected; leaving the trauma victim powerless, and without the ability to control the outcome of the event. PTSD can cause intrusive and unwanted symptoms: intense nightmares, vivid flashbacks, and frightening thoughts. These unwanted symptoms can appear out of nowhere; leaving scars that are debilitating. The intrusive and unanticipated thoughts can cause extreme fear, triggering the victim to avoid anything that has to do with the event. Individuals with PTSD can appear irritable, on edge, and nervous quite often. People with PTSD often have problems falling asleep, they associate sleep with a nightmare they’ve had in the past. Victims of PTSD may also feel or express their anxiety that something bad is going to happen, although they are safe. Untreated PTSD is commonly associated with substance abuse issues, individuals often turn to alcohol and drugs to cope with their trauma. PTSD can transpire from any traumatic event; PTSD is commonly linked to careers that witness traumatic events: soldiers, first responders, and doctors are among the few careers that experience trauma daily.
