Eating disorders are primarily characterized by extreme distress or concern about body image, weight, or shape; irregular eating patterns or habits are characteristics of eating disorders as well.

What we Treat

Eating Disorders

These irregular eating patterns or habits can consist of consuming inadequate or excessive amounts of food. Ultimately, these dangerous eating habits can alter and eventually damage an individual’s well-being. Eating disorders don’t discriminate; they can affect individuals of different genders, races, sizes, and walks of life. Three of the most common eating disorders are Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, and Binge Eating Disorder. Although these are the three most talked about and recognized eating disorders, eating disorders Not Otherwise Specified (EDNOS), consists of a massive spectrum many people fall under. Many people have a bad relationship with food or their body, but they do not fall under a specific disorder; they would be considered to have an Eating Disorder Not Otherwise Specified. Eating disorders are treatable; if left untreated, they can be fatal. An eating disorder is a mental illness that commonly coexists with other conditions; anxiety, depression, trauma, and a bad upbringing contribute immensely to an eating disorder. People who suffer from eating disorders lack a sense of control and stability in their life, or mental health; the constant monitoring of one’s body, food, and weight, help an individual with an eating disorder feel more in control.
